Glen and Rob's Big Adventure

We're too cheap for postcards so this will have to do...

Third times a charm!

Written by Glen and Robyn on

Hey there…

Well we are back in Argentina (for the third time) and about to head off for Iguazu Falls, which is on the border or Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. It should be an amazing site. Over the weekend we spent 4 days in Uruguay. Bit of a shotgun visit but it was quite a charming place.

First stop was Montevideo. We didn’t get spat on like the Aussie soccer team, so that was a good start. The market I previously mentioned was not your typical market at all. It was basically like the hot food part of the Vic Market but on a bigger scale. The Parrilla Racks (BBQ) were huge. You got to sit at the counter and order what you wanted by pointing at the freshly cooked meat. It’s probably not a good place for vegetarians to visit, but to all you carnivores out there, if your in Montevideo, make sure you check it out.

Me salivating at the idea of eating here

Apart from that, Montevideo was just your typical big city. There were some attractive old buildings to check out and some monuments, but that was about it. The food was probably the highlight. I know that it seems that I am always mentioning the food, but I was surprised when yesterday I stepped on one of the coin operated scales in the street and fully clothed I had lost 5kg since the start of our journey. Robyn had lost about 4kg as well. We need to start really eating lots… :)

Next up, we decided to spend a day in Punta Del Este. This was a beach resort town. Its not hard to guess what we did here all day. It was actually the first time since our holiday started that we were able to have a good swim. We spent the whole day there before we headed back to Montevideo to catch a connecting bus to Colonial Del Sacremento.

Colonial Del Sacremento has its origins as a smuggling town to Buenos Aires. Its a cute little town that seems like its the place time forgot. It has cobble stone streets and many historical buildings. Everyone there was really nice and it felt really safe at all times. We were even able to leave bikes unattended while we went into places. We were only there for just over 18 hours but we really got a feel for the place and loved it.

What the??? Must be the imfamous Bearopotumos

We were unable to get the ferry that we wanted but managed to get a bus boat combination back to B.A. This went back to Tigre (were we had previously been) but it would have been a cool way to see the Delta, had we not already done so.

That’s all for now. This afternoon we get on an overnight bus and by morning we will be at the doorstep to Iguazu. I will post some of the (probably hundreds) photos we take when I next get a chance. After that we are off to Brazil where hopefully we are able to get our tourist visa extended so we can actually get on our plane to London at the end of our trip.

Cheers,

Glen and Robyn

By the way. I didn’t get my haircut yet as you may have noticed. What are you going to do about it… :)
