Hi everyone,
Robyn and I have now arrived home for a brief stay over Christmas before we jet back off to Africa.
We have seen quite a bit over the last month and a half so we will let the photos do most of the explaining.
First up we headed to Mexico where we spent our days relaxing on the beach and the rest of the time stuffing ourselves full of the amazing food on offer. We also managed to visit Mayan ruins right on the beach and swim in crystal clear waters of Dos Ojos Cenote (underground cavern). We were also lucky enough to be in Mexico during Day of the Dead which is celebrated by visiting the graves of loved ones with offerings of Beer and Coca Cola.
Next up we spent a great three days in Belize where we relaxed in hammocks and snorkelled some of the finest reefs in the world.
Guatemala is where we spent the bulk of our time where we climbed volcanoes to toast marshmallows over the lava, village hopped around Lago Atitlian which is a stunning lake surrounded by volcanos, swam in warm lakes and visited Semuc Champey which was the highlight of Central America. Semuc Champey consists of a natural 300 m limestone bridge, under which passes the Cahabòn River. Atop the bridge is a series of stepped turquoise pools. We spent a morning in caves with nothing but candles for lighting to swim through waterfalls and jump off ledges. Then we headed to the outside turquoise pools for more swimming and to jump from 8 metres into the water below.
After a few day stop back in Vancouver we spent a week in New York City where we caught up with friends whom we met hiking in Nepal last year. We saw most of the main attractions like Central Park, the Empire State building, the Statue of Liberty, Time Square, and some of the Museums. We also saw Avenue Q on Broadway which we thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend. I also got to cross seeing the Knicks at Madison Square Garden of my list of things I have to do. Unfortunately they lost, but the spectacle of the game was well worth it.
So far it’s been great being back in Melbourne and we are looking forward to spending Christmas with our families after missing out last year.
Stay tuned for all our exploits in Africa and in the mean time, enjoy these photos.
Cheers,
Glen and Robyn
