We're too cheap for postcards so this will have to do...

We are now very hot, but at least its cheap...

Hi all,

As I informed you last week, we have now left Europe and are in Asia. It is just like we remembered it, hot and cheap. It has been such a contrast travelling here after such a long stint in Europe, but we are really enjoying it.

We started by flying into Bangkok and after quickly finding a guesthouse we set out to explore the city. Khao San road was busy, but its where most of the action takes place for backpackers. Thankfully, we were sleeping far enough away that the techno didn’t keep us up all night. The following day we explored further, visiting the Grand Palace and the Reclining Budha as well as a few other places. The following day we set off to Cambodia (we will be returning to Thailand later).

The trip into Cambodia was an epic journey starting at 7:00am and finishing at 10:00pm. In distance, its less than 400km to our destination, but both countries wanted there turn to rip off suspecting (yes we were actually waiting for it but could do nothing about it) tourists by over charging for visas and taking you to all of there connected resteraunts and guest hosues. Our first port of call was Siem Reap which is famous for one thing, Angkor Wat.

Angkor Wat was simply one of the best places we have ever visited. The area is quite large and filled to the brim with dozens of temples. We spent the two days we were there, riding a push bike through the jungle to get to them all. All in all we did around 60km of riding which took in both the big and the little (creative names) circuits. The temples of note were Angkor Wat, the biggest, grandest and most intricute of them all and the over grown Ta Prohm which is what most people would have seen in pictures. At Ta Prohm the jungle has simply taken over with trees are growing on top of the temples knocking over walls. This has been left this way after discovery to allow people to see what most of them were like when first discovered.

We are now in Phnom Penh where we have only just started to explore. Its good now that we are here as what I just explained to you is exactly what Robyn and her sister started of their trip 3 years ago, so Robyn can finally see something new.

Anyway, I hope to get some photos up as well as some more updates over the next 4 weeks, but will summarise the whole trip once its finally finshed.

Until then,

Cheers,

Glen and Robyn
