Glen and Rob's Big Adventure

We're too cheap for postcards so this will have to do...

Swedish Meatballs...

Written by Glen and Robyn on

Last weekend we were able to travel to Stockholm for the fine price of £5 return. Having booked it months ago, the excitement had been brewing for quite some time, and when we arrived, the city did not disappoint.

First up was wandering from the station to Gamla Stan (the old town). Gamla Stan is considered the centre of the city with the main attraction being the Royal Palace. The streets were narrow with plenty of shops selling an assortment of tourist trinkets.

The following day we visited the Skansen museum, which was an outdoor museum that brought various parts and times of Sweden and places them all in one place. It contained an assortment of buildings, traditional shops such as glass blowers and a bakery where we feasted. There was also a mini zoo that had many of the animals found throughout the country. The Wolverines kept us amused trying to kill each other.

Another museum that we visited was the Vasa Museum that contained a recovered and restored 300 year old war ship that sank on its maiden voyage. It has been almost fully preserved due to the unique waters of the Baltic Sea that kept the wood in good enough condition.

The next day we got out of the city and made our way to Tyresta National Park, which was only 20km out. We really enjoyed our 2 hour walk through the dense pine forest which took us around a sweet little lake.

Drottningholm Palace was next on the agenda, and it required us to catch a ferry for an hour. That in itself was an experience and it showed us more of the archipelago than the city afforded us. When we arrived we were meet by a major down poor, but having been in England for some time now, we are used to site seeing in the rain. The Palace is the official residence of the Swedish royal family. We did the tour and enjoyed the grounds.

A few other things to mention before you enjoy the photos are firstly the Swedish Meatballs. I had always heard that the Swedes were known for them, but they were awesome. The other thing they are known for is their love of coffee and the one Robyn had was called a 24 karat Mocha. As the name suggest, it was good.

That’s all for now. Enjoy the photos.
