Glen and Rob's Big Adventure

We're too cheap for postcards so this will have to do...

Back from hiatus...

Hi everyone,

Well it’s been over a month since we last posted but that break neck traveling speed has certainly slowed down. As a result, we have seen a few places and have really enjoyed ourselves, but have not had all that much to write about.

When last we wrote, we were still in Toronto with Jay. Toronto was a really nice city, but as so many big cities are, there was not all that much to do. What there was there to do we did. Of the highlights, we made a day trip to Niagara Falls which was amazing. Sure it was no Iguazu falls, but it was really cool to finally get to go where both Robyn and myself had always heard of, and wanted to visit. We also caught a ferry one sunny morning to what’s called the Toronto Islands, which was kind of like the botanical gardens on off shore islands. It was really nice and it offered us some panoramic views of the city skyline. One of the more interesting things we did was to check out “The Lord of The Rings” musical which debuted in Toronto earlier this year. It had some great sets and production value, but the music was average and trying to fit a thousand page book into 3 hours on stage didn’t help their cause either. Apart from the above, we spent the rest of the week shopping, eating, checking out the city and drinking Tim Houghton’s Coffee. All in all, it was a fun experience after such intense traveling for 4 months.

We left Toronto for London and arrived right in time for the wettest May in 27 years. Not a good start as we had already heard that the weather was depressing. That aside, our start in London has been fun. We have been able to catch up with Robyn’s sister and her fiancé, Alison and Nick where we are currently staying as well as countless other friends that are also in London at present.

We have also been able to get out of London and visit some other parts of the UK. We spent a day in Cambridge, but it was a gloomy day and we will have to go back to fully appreciate it. We also spent last long weekend in Wales where we were able to cross one of the three highest peaks in the UK off the list, Mt Snowden of Snowdonia National Park. This was one of the best walks we have ever done. There were two routes to the peak. One was a walk all the way to the top along a man made path, and the other was a mountaineering route to the top. It was nowhere near as bad as you might think. You didn’t need ropes or anything, just a little more caution. It was well worth it as the views from the top where great. When we reached the peak however the fog closed in and we were unable to see anything. It did clear up after a good rest so we did get to appreciate the full views that the peak offered, albeit brief. Of the other things we did in Wales, the most notable was a trip to Caernarfon Castle which was where Prince Charles was sworn in as the Prince of Wales. It was our first English castle and I’m sure it won’t be our last.

This past weekend Robyn had to work, but I was able to get to Oxford for what’s called a ramble. This is where you walk a damn long distance but get to stop off at enough food and drinking establishments to make it worth your while. It was a nice way to see a new place.

London itself has been fun. Robyn has found part time work but I am still looking. We have explored a fair bit of the city itself, visiting museums, and checking out some of the other sites in the process. While walking through the city the other day, we even spotted the queen being driven somewhere with her motorcade.

Last night, we were deciding where to go for the next long weekend in August and Sweden ended up on top. It could have been the 5 pound return fair we found, but it also is a place we thought would be interesting.

That’s all for this installment, and it hopefully won’t be as long till we next update…

Till then,

Glen and Robyn
